I love having reminders of what is important! As teachers, we get so overwhelmed with new curriculum, new resources, new expectations, etc., that sometimes it is hard to remember what IS most important. And "asking questions" is a skill that matters for all learners in all subject areas. It gives me fresh ideas and gets me excited to teach whatever concept it is. I hope that there is something in this post that will do that for you.
Have fun!
ShawnaShawnahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15919648888664240140noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1684275145213911250.post-17095188701806554422012-09-12T09:02:14.750-07:002012-09-12T09:02:14.750-07:00Hi Barbara,

When kids are given the freedom to think on their own they can come up with some brilliant answers, observations and ideas. The problem is, so many kids have been guided through so many "things" they are afraid they will say something wrong, rather than realize that their thoughts are important and have value. Having students ask questions, answer and or reflect on them should help them to gain confidence in themselves as an important part of the community.

You definitely have a better character book list than I do, because I have not heard of The Philosopher's Club. I just now put it on my wish list.

Have a lovely day!
Shawna Shawnahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15919648888664240140noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1684275145213911250.post-13007919374796010532012-09-12T08:47:30.352-07:002012-09-12T08:47:30.352-07:00Hi Katie,

And it is not just asking those questions but reflecting on them as well that makes the strategy so important! I am glad what I wrote makes sense :)

ShawnaShawnahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15919648888664240140noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1684275145213911250.post-29356971900255673852012-09-12T08:40:46.731-07:002012-09-12T08:40:46.731-07:00Hi Mona,

Thanks SO much!

Last year all of my bulletin boards were a question rather than a statement to draw kids in and get them to think. I LOVED hearing their answers!

Do you know the book The Philospher's Club?
