Top 10 Books for March

Time for my March Top 10 list of books.

March 2 is none other than Dr. Seuss Day. How can anyone just choose one Dr. Seuss book? I however, was up to the challenge and chose Mr. Brown Can Moo Can You? I still have my copy from when I was a little tyke just learning to read, and I LOVED reading this book!

March 2nd is also Tongue Twister Day. Kids love tongue twisters and this book Six Sheep Sip Thick Shakes - and other Tricky Tongue Twisters, has some great ones. Both my daughters still have one tongue twister they learned in elementary school that they recite often, it is really quite fun to listen to them start twisting.

March 4th is National Grammar Day. This book Scholastic Guide to Grammar is a must have book for any student, teacher and classroom. This book is filled with all the rules and help one would need to write using correct grammar.

March 10 is a day called Awesomeness Day. Everyone can do something that is awesome so this day was created to celebrate that awesomeness. In this book, How to Be Cool in the Third Grade Robbie needs to change so he can be considered cool, but in the end he learns what cool really is. This is a great beginning chapter book and your students will walk away knowing that they are awesome just the way they are.

I know what you are thinking, Johnny Appleseed Day is in September, which it is, but March 11 is also considered Johnny Appleseed Day because this is the day of his death. So, if you missed learning about Johnny Appleseed in September, you can do it this month. I love any books written in rhyme, and this book is no exception. It is rhythmically written with beautiful illustrations all telling the story of this great American icon.

March 14 is Ask A Question Day. This book The Kids' Book of Questions is a book filled with questions to ask kids. It is great for families and teachers to help open up discussions about many different topics that get the kids thinking. There are topics such as "right or wrong, about fears and hopes, ethics, religious beliefs, about why parents act the way they do--even about ruling the world."

Pi Day is March 14th. My kids always loved this day when they were in elementary school and this book, Sir Circumference and the Dragon of Pi is a great book to read. By the end of this story, your students will have a better understanding of what Pi is.

St. Patrick's Day is March 17th and there are a ton of books to read on this day, but my favorite is The Night Before St. Patrick's Day. It has leprechauns, traps, and surprises and it is written in rhyme, a win win book for everyone!

March 20 is National Jump Out Day. This day was created to encourage kids to get out and get moving and jump roping is such a fun way to do it. This book Anna Banana - 101 Jump-Rope Rhymes will get your kids excited to get out and start jumping!!

Absolutely Incredible Kid Day is on March 21st. This is your day to brag about your kids and how absolutely incredible they are. This book Incredible You! is filled with positive words and ideas that make kids feel great about who they are...and it is written in rhyme! This is a must have book for any library!

I hope I have shared some books that you need to pull out and dust off from your library or ones that you will look for the next time you head to the library. Either way, you and your students will really enjoy these books.

 Happy March!
