For this group I called the teacher and asked, "Are you sending the kids or are you in the middle of something?". She tells me to give her 5 minutes. The kids never came.
I am getting tired of being on the same thing for so long, when the kids don't come we don't get a lot finished. It's also frustrating when the teacher decides that they are going to send work for the kids to finish, regardless of my plans.
Oh well, I guess this is just part of being a specialist brought in 1/2 way through the school year. Hopefully this week will be better.
Hi Shawna. In my building, the teachers - speech, OT, Resource Room - come to get the kids in my room. This works much better because I would probably forget to send them. So I suggest that you just go get them - if they're in the middle of something, then you can help in the room - just go with the flow since they're not going to change any time soon. Then you won't get frustrated because of them, and you'll be more in control of the situation. I hope you don't mind me putting in my own 2 cents. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteHi Susan,
DeleteI don't mind at all. The funny thing is I usually go get them, but this teacher requested that I just call...go figure.
Thanks!
Shawna
So sorry. I know sometimes I ask for a few extra minutes but not to send them is bad. I would document this. As you said, they can't fill in the gaps if they are not there. Hope it gets better.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind them coming late or even if I have to call or go find them, its the not coming at all that starts to get frustrating. This is a new week, it will be good!

Aarrgg! That must be so frustrating! I hope this week goes better!
ReplyDeleteThanks Susanna, I am sure it will be a better week!

I have one particular teacher that I've had the same problem with this year. Quite a few times I've had to call to remind her that it is past time for the kids to be in class. More than once she's told me she's not sending her kids "because they have something else to do." It is extremely frustrating - especially since this particular class is one that is exclusively on Mondays. The day we have no school the most often. (holidays, teacher inservice, etc.)
