So Open House was May 22nd. My friend and I go all out for Open House, we seem to get these crazy ideas that we can create anything with PVC pipe and butcher paper.
This year our idea was to create a submarine to go with the ocean theme. The kids had so much fun creating, making and writing about their invertebrates.
Little by little their room was transformed and they were just ecstatic with the results.
We had only 1 student from her class not come to Open House and about 50% of the kinders come through ohhing and ahhing about what next year is going to be like.
It was great.
Below is a photo dump of the room.
The Submarine
This is how everyone entered the room. The blue circles are the windows with little water color fish the kids created and all the gadgets- the knobs, buttons and gauges were also created by the kids.
We stacked the classroom tables and chairs to make the underwater rocks.
The kids had a take home project. We sent home white butcher paper for them to make their bodies. We put them all over the room. This was the hallway display.
We had some of the kids swimming in the waves.
And here are a few of them swimming.
I took this picture from atop the ladder I was using to hang everything. You can see the swimmers looking down on the rocks.
We have these students sitting in the touch or tide pools.
Here are a few close ups of some of the things the kids made.
And finally a few random shots.
Well that’s it for this year. I wonder what crazy idea we will have next year…Again, sorry for the photo dump but there was just too much to share :)
This is just amazing! I am sure the kids had a blast helping to create this, and I love that you involved them in such a big project. I hope I can create something like this with my kids one day! Happy summer!

Second Grade Stampede
I love it! What a great idea to incorporate the "people" into all the different areas.
